The MSD News! - October 23, 2008

Hey Folks!
By looking at the up-coming dates for MSDQ, one might think we are living at Asterisk Restaurant & Bar. Not quite, but John & Tracy Bach-Sorensen have not only established one of Newport's finest restaurants, they are preserving Newport's well-known reputation in Jazz history with live music through the weekend. The MSD Quintet on Friday, The MSD Duo on Saturday & Sunday. Please visit http://asterisknewport.com/ for their information, or call 401.841.8833...

MSDQ hosted an open session during Columbus Weekend at POP, and were privileged to have some wonderful musicians sit-in with us. A special thanks to Justin Wood on drums, and to Ed Levine, Mike Renzi, and Jesse Ray (@ 13, a drummer you will hear a lot about in the future)...

MSDQ's debut recording DRIVEN is available at CD Baby http://cdbaby.com/cd/msdquintet for online shoppers. Also The Piano Gallery (401.849.5333) in Middletown, RI, and The Music Box ( http://musicboxnewport.com/ ) in Newport, RI, has DRIVEN...

MSDQ News! - July 30, 2008

Hey Folks!
Just a note to catch-up on what's been happenin' with MSDQ! A couple of performances of note in the month of July were @ The Newport Blues Cafe, and The King's Park Gazebo in Newport.

A thanks to Jim Quinn for having MSDQ @ The Newport Blue's Cafe, and their soundtech Pete @ Newport Blue's for a great night on Newport's finest stage. Always fun playing there, and www.newportblues.com has the latest for upcoming performers.

The Newport Independent Music Festival has been hosting performances every Sunday this summer, and MSDQ was privileged to be included. A special thanks to Kevin Sullivan of NIMF, and http://www.nimfest.com/home.htm has a listing of upcoming performers/events. A huge thanks to Jeff Fountain for sitting in on drums and doing a fantastic job! Jeff's experience and creativity brought an energy to the performance that was reminiscent of (dare I say) past performances of the Newport Jazz Festival.

Keep cool, enjoy your summer, and we look forward to seeing you @ POP this Friday, August 1st!!!

MSDQ July News! - July 10, 2008

Hey Folks!
The MSD Quintet was pretty active this past 4th of July weekend, and it was a blast!

On the 4th, MSDQ was @ POP in Newport, for a cool session after the fireworks. MSDQ was honored to have Jeff Fountain sitting in on drums for the night, and Jeff was on it! Thanks Jeff, and thanks to Carl, Rich, Ericka, and the POP staff for their warm hospitality.

Billy Goode's in Newport hosted an early evening session with The MSD Quintet on Sunday, and MSDQ was happy to have tenor saxist Bob Merrill join in for a few tunes. As always, a tremendous appreciative audience @ Billy Goode's, hi-lighted by the presence of pianist/composer Mike Renzi, music director of Sesame Street. A huge thanks to Kevan Campbell's staff @ Billy Goode's, and to Erik Sperl for his excellent performance wrapping-up a fun weekend of music.

The MSD Quintet will be @ The Newport Blue's Cafe on July 14th, 9pm, thanks again for your tremendous support...see you on the 14th!

MSDQ News! - June 18, 2008

Hey Folks!
This is our first entry into The MSD Quintet's news/journal, and this will be the place to find the latest with MSDQ...

The summer of 2008 has been pretty busy for MSDQ, and we just finished 3 days of doing performances/clinics for the kids in the Newport, RI elementary schools. Some of theses kids will be our future musicians, so it is important to pass along to them what we have learned...and IT WAS A BLAST!!! A huge thanks to Loren Palmer for putting it all together. The schools will miss you Loren, but after 30 years, enjoy your retirement!

MSDQ has also perfomed @ The Newport Blue's Cafe recently, and thanks to Jim Quinn for making it happen. The Newport Blue's Cafe is one of the finest venues in Rhode Island, and our debut performance there was fantastic!

The CourtHouse Center For The Arts in West Kingston, RI was another venue MSDQ has played recently. For those of you who missed this performance, this is a venue you should check-out for future events. A nice place to play...

MSDQ will be @ POP in Newport this Friday, June 20th, 8:30pm. Hope to see you there, hope your summer is full of fun!
